1Pet1:3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. - NIV
1Jhn1:1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we
have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have
touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2The life
appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal
life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3We proclaim
to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with
us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4We
write this to make our joy
complete. - NIV
Rm1:1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to
be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God-- 2the gospel he
promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3regarding
his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4and
who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God
by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5Through
him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people
from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from
faith. 6And
you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. - NIV
Rm5:18Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation
for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification
that brings life for all men. 19For just as through the disobedience
of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the
one man the many will be made righteous. 20The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where
sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin
reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - NIV
Rm6:1What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may
increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any
longer? 3Or don't you know that all of us who
were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We
were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as
Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live
a new life. - NIV
Rm6:5If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will
certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6For we know
that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done
away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- 7because
anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live
with him. 9For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he
cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10The death
he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he
lives, he lives to God. 11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but
alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so
that you obey its evil desires. 13Do not offer the parts of your body
to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as
those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body
to him as instruments of righteousness. 14For sin shall not be your
master, because you are not under law, but under grace. - NIV
Rm6:15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under
grace? By no means! 16Don't you know that when you offer yourselves
to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you
obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience,
which leads to righteousness? 17But thanks be to God that, though you
used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to
which you were entrusted. 18You have been set free from sin and have
become slaves to righteousness. 19I put this in human terms because you are weak in
your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery
to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to
righteousness leading to holiness. 20When you were slaves to sin, you
were free from the control of righteousness. 21What benefit did you
reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in
death! 22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become
slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness,
and the result is eternal
life. 23For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - NIV
Rm8:9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the
Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the
Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But
if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive
because of righteousness. 11And if the
Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who
raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through
his Spirit, who lives in you. 12Therefore,
brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live
according to it. 13For if you live according to
the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you
put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will
live, 14because those who are led by the
Spirit of God are sons of God. - NIV
Rm2:5But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you
are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his
righteous judgment will be revealed. 6God "will give to each
person according to what he has done."
7To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and
immortality, he will give eternal
life. 8But for those who are
self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and
anger. 9There will be trouble and distress for every human being who
does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10but glory,
honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the
Gentile. 11For God does not show favoritism. - NIV
1Jhn2:15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone
loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For
all that is in the world-- the desires [cravings] of the flesh [sinful man] and
the desires [lust] of the eyes and pride in possessions [man's boasting of what
he has and does]--is not from the Father but is from the world. 17And
the world is passing away along with its desires, but
whoever does the will of God abides [lives] forever. - ESV
1Jhn2:23No
one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses [acknowledges] the Son
has the Father also. 24Let [see
that] what you heard from the beginning abide [remain(s)] in you. If what you
heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and
in the Father. 25And this is the
promise that he made to us [what he promised us] --eternal life. - ESV
1Jhn3:1How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should
be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does
not know us is that it did not know him. 2Dear friends, now we are
children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made
known. But we know
that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3Everyone
who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
1Jhn3:14We know that we have passed from
death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in
death. 15Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know
that no murderer has eternal life in him. - NIV
1Jhn5:1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of
God, and
everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how
we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his
commands. 3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his
commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the
world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who
is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of
God.
6This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not
come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies,
because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify:
8the
Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9We
accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the
testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10Anyone who
believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not
believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the
testimony God has given about his Son. 11And this is the testimony:
God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He who
has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of
God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14This is the
confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his
will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us--whatever we
ask--we know that we have what we asked of him. ..... 18We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who
was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. 19We
know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control
of the evil one. 20We know also that the Son of God has come and has
given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him
who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. - NIV
2Jhn1:1The elder to the elect [chosen] lady and her children, whom I love in
[the] truth,
and not only I, but also all who know the truth, 2because of
the
truth that abides [lives] in us and will be with us forever: 3Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and
from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love. - ESV
1Pet1:22Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth
so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from
the heart. 23For you have been born
again, not
of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of
God. 24For,
"All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the
flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25but
the word of the Lord stands forever." (Isa40:6-8)
And this is the word that was preached to you. - NIV
1Pet5:5 ..... you who are younger, be subject [submissive] to the
elders [those who are older]. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility
toward one another, for
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." (Pro3:34)
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that
at the proper time he may exalt you [lift you up], 7casting
all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8Be
sober-minded [self-controlled]; be watchful [alert]. Your adversary the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9Resist
him, [standing] firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are
being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10And
after you have suffered a little while, the God of all
grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in
Christ, will himself restore, confirm [make you firm], strengthen, and
establish you [make you steadfast]. 11To
him be the dominion [power] forever and ever. Amen. - ESV
2Pet3:3 ..... long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.
6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8But
do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a
thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The
Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
repentance. 10But
the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a
roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it
will be laid bare. 11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives
12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its
coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.
13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new
earth, the home of righteousness. 14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
15Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.
Jud1:20But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.
21Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal
life.
22Be merciful to those who doubt; 23snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fearhating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
24To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy
25to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. - NIV
