Rm14:4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master
he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
..... 7For none of us lives to himself alone
and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we
live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we
live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9For this
very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of
both the dead and the living. 10You, then, why do you judge your
brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we
will all stand before God's judgment seat. 11It
is written:
" 'As surely as I live,' says
the Lord,
'every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will confess to God.'
" (Isa45:23)
12So then, each of us will
give an account of himself to God. ..... 17For
the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness,
peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18because
anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. 19Let
us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual
edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God
for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat
anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It
is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause
your brother to fall. 22So whatever you believe
about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed
is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23But
the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from
faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin. - NIV
1Jhn4:7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does
not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God
showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we
might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but
that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear
friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No
one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love
is made complete in us. 13We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his
Spirit. 14And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his
Son to be the Savior of the world. 15If anyone acknowledges that
Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16And so we
know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love
lives in God, and God in him. 17In this way, love is made complete
among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this
world we are like him. 18There is no fear in love. But perfect love
drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is
not made perfect in love. 19We love because he first loved us.
20If anyone says,
"I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does
not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21And
he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. - NIV
Rm1:18The wrath of God is being revealed from
heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth
by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to
them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation
of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine
nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so
that men are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they neither
glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile
and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be
wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God
for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. - NIV
Rm1:24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires
of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one
another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie,
and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever
praised. Amen. 26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful
lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In
the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were
inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men,
and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. 28Furthermore,
since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave
them over to a depraved2 mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They
have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity.
They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers,
God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil;
they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless,
heartless, ruthless. 32Although they
know God's righteous decree that
those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very
things but also approve of those who practice them. - NIV
Rm2:1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone
else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself,
because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2Now
we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3So
when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do
you think you will escape God's judgment? 4Or
do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not
realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? - NIV
Rm2:5But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you
are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his
righteous judgment will be revealed. 6God "will give to each
person according to what he has done."
7To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and
immortality, he will give eternal life. 8But for those who are
self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and
anger. 9There will be trouble and distress for every human being who
does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10but glory,
honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the
Gentile. 11For God does not show favoritism. - NIV
Rm2:12All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law,
and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13For it is
not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who
obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14(Indeed, when
Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they
are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15since
they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their
consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even
defending them.) 16This will take place on the day when God will
judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. - NIV
Rm3:9What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have
already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. 10As
it is written:
"There is no one righteous, not even one;
11there is no one who
understands,
no one who seeks God.
12All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one." (Psa14:1-3;53:1-3
Ecc7:20)
13"Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit." (Psa5:9)
"The poison of vipers is on their lips." (Psa140:3)
14"Their mouths are
full of cursing and bitterness." (Psa10:7)
15"Their feet are swift to shed
blood;
16ruin and misery mark
their ways,
17and the way of peace they do not know."
(Isa59:7,8)
18"There is no fear
of God before their eyes." (Psa36:1)
19Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those
who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced
and the whole world held accountable to God. 20Therefore
no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather,
through the law we become conscious of sin. 21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made
known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This
righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.- NIV
Rm5:12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death
through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned-- .....
15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the
trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by
the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16Again,
the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment
followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses
and brought justification. 17For if, by the trespass of the one man,
death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's
abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life
through the one man, Jesus Christ. - NIV
Rm5:18Consequently, just as the result of one
trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of
righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. 19For
just as through the disobedience of the one man the many
were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many
will be made righteous. 20The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where
sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin
reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - NIV
Rm 8:1Therefore, there is now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2because
through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of
sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless
to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own
Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And
so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4in
order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us,
who do not live according to the sinful nature but
according to the Spirit. 5Those who live
according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires;
but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what
the Spirit desires. 6The
mind of sinful man is death, but the mind
controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7the
sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do
so. 8Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
- NIV
Rm8:9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the
Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the
Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But
if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive
because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit
of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ
from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who
lives in you. 12Therefore, brothers,
we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to
it. 13For if you live
according to the sinful nature, you will die;
but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the
body, you will live, 14because
those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For
you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you
received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 16The
Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17Now
if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if
indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. - NIV
1Pet4:1Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh [his body],
arm yourselves with the same way of thinking [attitude], for whoever has suffered in the
flesh has ceased from sin [is done with sin], 2so as to live for the rest of the time in
the flesh [his earthly life] no longer for human passions [evil desires] but for the will of God.
3The
time that is past suffices for [you have spent enough time in the past] doing what the Gentiles
[pagans] want [choose] to do, living in sensuality [debauchery1],
passions [lust], drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties [carousing6], and lawless idolatry.
4With respect to this they are surprised when you do not
join [plunge with] them in the same flood of debauchery [dissipation4], and they malign5
[heap abuse on] you; 5but
they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are
[now] dead, that
though judged in the flesh the way people are [according to men in regard to the
body], they might live in the spirit the
way God does [according to God in the regard to the spirit]. - ESV
1Jhn1:5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God
is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have
fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the
truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all sin. 8If we claim to be without sin, we
deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not
sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 2:1My
dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does
sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the
Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for
our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. - NIV
1Pet4:12Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery [painful] trial
when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening
to you. 13But rejoice insofar as
[that] you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when
his glory is revealed. 14If you are
insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory
and of God rests upon you. 15But let
none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler.
16Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian,
let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that [he bears that] name.
17For it is time
for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what
will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18And
"If the righteous is scarcely
saved,
what will become of the ungodly and
the sinner?" (Pro11:31)
19Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust
their souls to a [their] faithful Creator while doing [continuing to do] good. -
ESV
2Pet2:4For if God did
not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to
hell, putting them into
gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment; 5if
he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly
people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6if
he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made
them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7and
if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of
lawless men 8(for
that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his
righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard) 9if
this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold
the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their
punishment. 10This
is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature
and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander
celestial beings; 11yet
even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring
slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. 12But
these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute
beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like
beasts they too will perish.
- NIV
2Pet2:13They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse6a in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you. 14With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greedan accursed brood! 15They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness. 16But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkeya beast without speechwho spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness. - NIV
2Pet2:17These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity2afor a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him. 20If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," (Pro26:11) and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud." - NIV
2Pet3:3First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
4They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."
5But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.
6By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
7By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8But
do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a
thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The
Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
repentance. 10But
the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a
roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it
will be laid bare. 11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives
12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its
coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.
13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
15Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means
salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God
gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his
letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that
are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do
the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. - NIV
Jud1:3Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 4For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. 5Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own homethese he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. 8In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings. 9But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" 10Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animalsthese are the very things that destroy them. 11Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam's error; they have been destroyed in Korah's rebellion. 12These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualmshepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprootedtwice dead. 13They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. 14Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him." 16These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage. 17But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires." 19These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. - NIV
