So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments [put his outer garment back on], and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to [for WU] you? Ye call me Master [Teacher] and Lord: and ye say well [correctly]; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily [most assuredly], I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither [nor WU] he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy [blessed] are ye if ye do them. Jh 13:1-17 Jesus set an example of serving, even though He is our Lord, when he washed his disciples feet at the last supper.
Verily, verily [most assuredly], I say unto you, Except [unless] a corn [grain] of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth [remains by itself] alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit [grain]. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto [for WU] life eternal. If any man serve me, let him [he must WU] follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. Jh 12:24-26 Following in the ways of Jesus, we serve him.
humility and not lording yourself over others
And there was also a strife [dispute WU] among them, which of them should be accounted
[was considered] the greatest. And he [Jesus WU] said unto them, The
kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship [lord it] over them; and they that exercise
authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is
greatest among you, let him be as [like WU] the younger; and he that is chief [governing],
as he that doth serve. For whether [who] is greater, he that sitteth at meat [the table],
or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
Lk 22:24-27
But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat [eat WU]? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup [prepare my supper], and gird [cloth] thyself [properly], and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow [think] not. So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable [unworthy] servants: we have [only WU] done that which was our duty to do. Lk 17:7-10
